Dark Mofo Drops 2018 Lineup
After whetting appetites with the news that lords of stoner doom Electric Wizard would be appearing at this year's Dark Mofo, organisers have revealed the full, jaw-dropping program.
The eclectic, experimental spread includes New York’s multimedia maven Laurie Anderson, Grammy Award-winning composer and multi-instrumentalist St Vincent, pioneers of fierce industrial noise Einsturzende Neubauten (back for the second year running), genre-bending dark electro songstress Zola Jesus, Canadian Inuk throat-singer and Indigenous activist Tanya Tagaq, and founding member of Crystal Castles Alice Glass.
Twin Peaks devotees will feel right at home at the Bang Bang Bar, Dark Mofo’s Lynchian tribute venue, which will host intimate shows with Einstürzende Neubauten’s leading man Blixa Bargeld, Kiwi crooner Marlon Williams, no-wave queen and legend of the New York underground Lydia Lunch, enigmatic shape-shifter Jarboe (formerly of Swans, Neurosis) and Italian purveyors of psychedelic occultism Father Murphy. The cherry in your pie? Dazzling chanteuse Rebekah Del Rio (who you will know from her breathtaking performances in Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks) will take up residency over several nights at the venue.
Dark Mofo’s night of metal mayhem Hymns to the Dead will make its return this year with another stellar multi-national bill, carefully curated to summon only the darkest demons. Polish black metal legion Batushka will be joined by Canadian acts Blasphemy and Numenorean, and Australia’s very own Portal and Spire.
Beyond the musical fare, there is the annual Nude Solstice Swim, fellow favourite Winter Feast and the return of the festival’s after-dark industrial art playground, Dark Park; MONA’s exhibition of major artworks from the post-war avant garde ZERO movement; TMAG’s exploration of physical, psychological and social imprisonment A Journey to Freedom; a frenzied celebration of arcane knowledge, magic, science, and the occult in Salamanca Arts Centre’s Invisible House; and an opportunity to take a sonic bath in cascading and colliding waves of feedback created by the late, great Lou Reed in Lou Reed: Drones.
Dark Mofo descends upon Hobart from 13–24th June.
Tickets go on sale at 11am AEST on Tuesday 10th April.
